Issued by the National Weather Service at 9:32 PM MST on March 9, 2010


... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am MST
Thursday...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am MST Thursday.

* Location... Huerfano County and Las Animas County below 7500
feet... including Walsenburg... Trinidad... Branson and Kim.

* Cause and timing... a storm moving across northern New Mexico
tonight will be followed by another storm system moving across
the Great Basin region Wednesday morning. This system will
continue to move across The Four Corners by Wednesday evening
and into central New Mexico through early Thursday morning.
These systems will bring bouts of moderate to heavy snow to
the area tonight and again Wednesday afternoon through
Wednesday night... with a possible lull in snowfall Wednesday
morning.

* Snow accumulation... accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are
expected. The heaviest snow will fall on the northeast faces of
the Raton Mesa. Snow fall rates may become quite intense...
especially tomorrow afternoon through tomorrow night.

* Impact... roads will become snowpacked and visibility will be
reduced due to blowing snow... especially late Wednesday
afternoon through Wednesday night.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Avoid travel in the warning area. If you are planning to travel
in the warning area during the time of the warning... listen to
the latest weather forecast and consider traveling at another
time or by another Route. If you must travel in the warning area
during the time of the warning... take along a winter survival
kit. If you become stranded in a rural area... stay with your
vehicle until help arrives. To keep warm in your vehicle... run
your engine 10 minutes each hour... and make sure the exhaust pipe
is clear of snow to avoid Carbon monoxide poisoning.
